Squirrel Proof Bird Feeders

Bird feeders are one of the most enjoyable and lovely things to have in your garden or back yard. You can watch dozens of different kinds of birds flock to your plot of land and enjoy the delicious food you have to offer. Unfortunately, the things that birds like to eat are also attractive to a few other animals: namely, squirrels and as much as they are cute and we would all like to feed them too, they tend to scare off all the birds. Another thing is also that one squirrel can eat the same amount of food that it would last a dozen birds for days. So, it is in the gardener's best interest to find a squirrel proof bird feeder.

There are many kinds and types of bird feeders that are designed to keep out the squirrels. I myself have used several different kinds and found that each has different pros and cons. For example, one of the latest ones I have been using is the Heritage Farms Absolute II Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder. This bird feeder is one of my favorites for several reasons. First of all, it holds a tremendous amount of sunflower seeds (up to an entire bag). The birds love the design of the feeder and flock to it almost as soon as I hang it up with a fresh round of food. And of course the most important thing is that the way that the openings on the feeder are designed makes it really hard for squirrels to get to. If they do get to it, however, there is nowhere for them to sit and nothing to hold on to, so they quickly give up and go searching for other sources for their afternoon snack.

For its price (usually around $60), this bird feeder really gets the job done as far as keeping birds interested and squirrels out. Another great squirrel proof bird feeder is the Brome 1024 Squirrel Buster Plus Wild Bird Feeder. The name says it all with this bird feeder, no squirrel can get anything out of this feeder simply because of its ingenuity and witty design. Also, around $60, this bird feeder is slightly less popular with most of the bigger birds but for some reason the smaller birds seem to love it. So although the feeder certainly keeps away the squirrels, it is not a favorite among all the birds that may be visiting.

Personally, I do not like the shape of this squirrel proof bird feeder as much as I like the Heritage Farms one. The Squirrel Buster seems to sacrifice interesting garden design for its unique ability to keep all squirrels disinterested and away.
